Caroline Christie-Coxon’s site-responsive works bring material, body, place and time into direct relationship. Often developed within remote and ecologically sensitive environments, these artistic interactions combine preparation with intuition while remaining responsive to weather, water, terrain, light and duration. The work is neither controlled nor left to chance; it emerges through relationship.
The body functions as both material and perceptual instrument. Vulnerable and responsive, it enters the landscape without assuming dominance over it, shifting the enquiry from observing relationship to experiencing interdependence directly. Within the land–body works, Christie-Coxon also determines the conditions of her own visibility—what is revealed, concealed or withheld.
Her reusable Soft Paintings and Soft Sculptures operate as mobile, permeable tools. Activated by wind, water, gravity and contact with the ground, they extend painting beyond the studio and allow environmental forces to participate in the work.
Photography and video preserve these temporary encounters while becoming works in their own right. They hold traces of action, material change and environmental condition, reflecting on vulnerability, diasporic belonging and humanity’s place within the more-than-human world.
